One of the things I love about Photoshop is the large amount of special effect filters. There a little trick to figure out. This one uses the "lighting effect" feature. As I was coloring the comic using my normal "paintbrush" and "paintbucket" tools, I started to think of a way to make it really stand out. So...I finished coloring it, and started playing around with the lighting effects. It took about 10 minutes to get it right, and I still think the 'halo' of the light should be a little wider, but other than that I'm EXTREMELY pleased with how cool this looks. Also...I forgot to add in my last post, that I searched (and searched...) on the 'net for a really good, famous quote about reading. I wanted something about the 'magic' of reading since Dug is reading Harry Potter, but I just couldn't find one that fit well. So then I looked for something to do with how reading takes you away to another world, and well...didn't come up with anything I thought fit either. SO...I ended up using a good 'ol Dr. Seuss quote. It doesn't 'fit' the 'mood' of the comic perfectly...but it works enough to set the tone. So...overall I'm happy with it. BUT...don't be surprised if one of these days, I change the book, change the quote and rerun this comic.
